Byker Trust
Tenants of the Byker Estate have voted yes to the proposals made by the Council to transfer council owned homes on the Estate to an independent Community Trust.
This is a landmark decision which will see major investment to both homes and the environment on the Estate over the next 30 years as well as more involvement for local residents.
The Transfer is not privatisation – the new trust would not make a profit and would be run by local people. It is about getting what’s right for Byker both in terms of investment and the management of the Estate.
The Trust will be in place by March 2012. Tenants will change from a Secure Teancy to an Assured Tenancy. Most of your key rights will be protected but full details about the agreement can be found in the new proposed Assured Tenancy Agreement.
More details about the proposals can be found in the Official Offer Document.
