Who decides?
The vote is run independently by Electoral Reform Services (ERS) who are recognized worldwide as an independent scrutineer of voting. They are used most by UK local authorities to conduct their elections and authorized by the UK Parliament.
If a majority of those who vote say yes then the Trust will go ahead, however the Secretary of State still has a right of veto. This would probably only occur if there was a very low turnout, and/or the vote was very close. Here are few examples of recent housing stock transfer ballot results -
Bolton – 56% turnout - 76% yes, 24% no. Transfer was approved.
Vale of Glamorgan – 68.4% turnout - 49.2% yes, 50.8% no. No vote so transfer did not go ahead.
Wycombe – 65% turnout - 57% yes, 43% no. Transfer was approved.
We will find out the result of the ballot on 22nd July. You can find out the result by checking the website, Twitter and Facebook. We will also distribute a leaflet to every household to inform everyone about the result as soon as possible.
